[SYS-40R]

YEAR 2

Originally as a 19th-century blacksmith’s shop redesigned into an art studio and then re-purposed as a modern single family residence, this adaptive space is reimagined once again in a dystopian future where technology and humanity is intertwined in a high-tech and low-life world. Drawing from the cyberpunk/sci-fi aesthetic, SYS-40R (SYSTEM-40R) is a reimagination of the 40r Laneway House by Superkül where the building becomes a hybrid of human and machine - a symbol for technological utopia or dystopia.

In this cybernetic future, the house becomes a battle between human and identity. When technology is integrated into every aspect of life, the house becomes more than a shelter - it becomes a reflection of identity.

Each space is a commentary on resistance, control, and expression. The hallway is a channel and barrier – a dichotomy of resistance and compliance. The courtyard is a symbol of tension – the openness to express but also the fragility that comes with expression.

At the epitome, the bedroom is a battlefield between identity and integration. It is the last sanctuary for human identity against the house's inevitable technological control.
